The Truth about Counter-weighting
8/18/03
 | I have heard of counter-weighting...what makes
your product so unique?
A: BCG has fully researched the history of
counter-weighting and found that leading players
throughout the past many years have experimented
with it and some do to this day. (We can't say whom,
but think major title holders.) What BCG has done is
perfect the installation, performance and
consistency to bring the concept to the real world
in an easy to install, fully adjustable product that
can improve the ball striking of players of all
skill levels.
 | What does it do to swing weight?
A: Well, most obviously it does lighten the swing
weight, but be sure that you still have the same
head striking the ball. What our Pro-Balance System
does is allow for less swing path deviation so you
will strike the ball in the sweet spot more often. A
side benefit is that you will have a tendency to hit
the ball more squarely and as a result have
straighter shots. This is especially true for
golfers who have trouble with hooking or slicing.
 | I read that ball speed increases with
Pro-Balance on board, why?
A: A couple of reasons. First, as we mentioned,
swing weight is a bit lighter so the club head may
come through a little faster. But more
significantly, ball speed increases due to increased
loading of the shaft, particularly on the driver.
Secondly, more energy is transferred to the ball at
impact and can be felt immediately as less
vibration. Since less energy is lost through
vibration, ball speed increases. Finally, since most
golfers experience a tighter ball-striking pattern
on the clubface, a more direct hit also results in
greater ball speed, hence more distance.
 | Why will the Pro-Balance System help my
putting?
A: This was real revelation to us here in the Lab.
By putting more weight above the hands a couple of
things happen. One, the weight tends to give a
greater balance to the putter resulting in keeping
the hands quiet and more stokes that keep square to
the target. Secondly, with the "right"
weight, more feedback is sent to the hands by moving
the vibrational center (node) further up the shaft.
While it may seem insignificant, the resulting
feedback in almost all cases results in more
distance control and greater "feel." All
of these factors have caused our professional Tour
players to lower their putting stroke average. The
same has been true for our regular golf customers.
 | You speak of drivers and putters, what about my
iron play with Pro-Balance?
A: While many of our customers start with the
putter, or putter and driver since these clubs have
so much to do with scoring and golf enjoyment (who
doesn't want 10 or 20 more yards from their existing
driver, or fewer putts per round?) many others have
their irons and wedges balanced too. While the
difference may seem less significant, what our
testing shows, and player experience, is perhaps a
half a club increased distance, more control and
shot shaping ability, and straighter shots. In some
cases, we have seen increased spin, even on longer
irons allowing the golfer to hit a 4 iron into the
green and have it stick like never before.
 | Is it expensive, I have heard some say it is?
A: We don't think so. Installations of the drop-in
systems for steel shafts start around the price of a
dozen balls, per club. You can do one at time, or
all at once. We believe increased performance is why
we play. In many cases you have spent hundreds of
dollars for a driver, or a putter. A few more
dollars for the added enjoyment and performance
doesn't seem unreasonable to us. Our products are
made of the highest quality right here in America,
and our dealers offer outstanding service with a
reasonable markup. Satisfaction is guaranteed. The
systems for graphite shafts are slightly higher, and
require a bit more work for installation, but you
get the added benefit of interchangeability of the
weights. For the added value and performance, we
think this is a bargin. People have spent far more
for far less in this hyped up market.
 | What exactly do the Power Rings do?
A: The Power Rings are both a fitting tool for our
Certified Dealers, and a testing/training tool for
golfers. These easy to use rings fit neatly over the
grip of most clubs and can be fit snuggly at the
butt end of the grip allowing the golfer to
"test" the various weights available and
simulates what will happen once the permenant system
is installed. The Power Rings are not legal for USGA
tournament play, but they certainly will give you
good indicator if this technology will help your
game as we think it will.
 | Is the Pro-Balance system for all golfers?
A: We have found that golfers of all abilities will
experience an improvement in the areas we have
talked about. It appears that the better golfers get
better results only because they have a more
consistent swing that can maximize the benefit of
these products. However, many high handicappers and
women seeking more distance and greater control have
reported wonderful results using Pro-Balance
systems.
Essentially, one can enjoy greater control and
better ball striking our products.
